The project to upgrade the coastal road in Ha Tinh, spanning over 62 kilometers, has been substantially completed after four years, helping to ease traffic on National Highway 1A and promote local economic and social development.
The Ha Tinh coastal road stretches over 100 kilometers. Excluding sections overlapping with National Highway 1A and provincial roads, the 62-kilometer section from Xuan Hoi – Thach Khe – Vung Ang has been upgraded and newly constructed. The project runs through Nghi Xuan, Loc Ha, Cam Xuyen, Ky Anh Districts, and Ky Anh Town.
The project has a total investment of nearly VND 1,500 billion, sourced from the central government budget, government bonds, and other sources. The Ha Tinh Provincial Transportation Construction Investment Project Management Board is the investor.
Construction began in 2018, with some sections completed in previous years.
In areas where the road passes through mountainous terrain, retaining walls have been built to prevent landslides. The walls are 2.5 meters high, with lengths varying based on the location.
According to the Project Management Board, these areas have sandy and loose geological compositions mixed with large boulders, necessitating concrete retaining walls to ensure safety for the infrastructure and road users.
There are six locations along the Ha Tinh coastal road where landslide retaining walls have been built.
At the section passing through Ky Ninh Commune, Ky Anh Town, the sea dike-style embankment includes staircases for technical staff to inspect and maintain the structure. This is currently the only spot along the entire route with such staircases.
A winding section of road through Ky Phu Commune, Ky Anh District, passes by low cliffs and water canals on both sides.
To ensure traffic safety, in critical areas with high embankments, valleys, or near the coastline, contractors have installed double-wave guardrails on both sides of the road.
Warning signs have been installed 80 meters before intersections with local roads to alert drivers and avoid collisions with vehicles entering from side roads.
Every morning, many athletes and sports enthusiasts cycle along the Ha Tinh coastal road for exercise.
The stretch from Cam Xuyen District to Ky Anh Town features winding, scenic routes hugging the coastline, creating picturesque landscapes where many young travelers stop to take check-in photos.
"Sometimes when passing through here in the late afternoon, besides taking photos, my friends and I stand by the road, enjoying the sea breeze and watching fishing boats at sea. It feels very relaxing," said Dung (right side of the photo), a resident of Ha Tinh City.
From Ky Phu Commune to Ky Khang Commune (Ky Anh District), the road passes through farmlands where the investor has also built internal concrete roads connecting to the coastal road to facilitate local residents' transportation and production activities.
By mid-August, workers were painting speed bumps on local access roads leading to the main route near Cam Xuyen District.
Currently, the entire route is substantially completed, except for the section from Ky Phu Commune (Ky Anh District) to Ky Ninh Commune (Ky Anh Town), nearly 10 kilometers long, which is scheduled for completion and operation in the fourth quarter of 2022.
The largest bridge along the route is the Cua Nhuong Bridge, connecting Cam Nhuong and Cam Linh Communes (Cam Xuyen District). The bridge is over 1,300 meters long and 14 meters wide, completed in 2014 with an investment of nearly VND 600 billion.
Cua Nhuong Bridge crosses the river mouth and is a popular spot for local residents to relax and take photos.
Earlier, in 2020, the section from Xuan Hoi Commune (Nghi Xuan District) to Thach Bang Commune (Loc Ha District), over 32 kilometers long, was completed and put into operation.
Mr. Hoang Viet, Project Operation and Management Team Leader at the Ha Tinh Provincial Transportation Construction Investment Project Management Board, said the project helps ease traffic on National Highway 1A, facilitates efficient exploitation and use of marine and coastal resources, supports local socio-economic development, and strengthens national defense and security.
“The Ha Tinh coastal road will connect the Southern Nghe An – Northern Ha Tinh and Southern Ha Tinh – Northern Quang Binh regions. It serves as a vital transportation axis driving the development of major economic zones including Bac Vinh (Nghe An), Vung Ang (Ha Tinh), and Hon La (Quang Binh), forming a chain of economic hubs to maximize regional strengths and promote tourism and service development along the coastline,” Mr. Viet said.
